Effects of Global warming are taking its tool.Already its early April and the temperatures are running over 44 degree centigrade.God knows what will happen in May & June in the northern part of India.Time has come that instead of rhetoric we should take some strong measures & that too on an emergent basis.We are a nation of 1 billion plus & if every citizen can plant at least 1 sapling every month we still end up planting more than 15 billion.Central & state Governments can involve the NGO's & elected representatives from block level to corporation & MLA's & MP's to monitor the planting of saplings.We can take the help of remote sensing satellite pictures to assess the progress made in this regard.Horticulture & the Forest department will also have to play its part towards success of this mass public endeavor.Further school children instead of only studying Environmental Studies should be persuaded to plant saplings in their campus & also along the roadside of their school.
I observe that street lights apart from consuming lot of energy are even lighted up during the day time.Authorities concerned should seriously look into this aspect. We can also replace these sodium vapor lamps with LED lamps.Friends let us arise & awake to the call to save our future generations & perform our duties as responsible citizens of this great country
